Glass curtains enclosing the curved terrace of a modern home

Frameless Glass Curtains to Enclose Your Terrace

Glass curtains are glass panels that slide along a track and fold away to one side. Closed, they protect you from wind, rain and cold; open, the terrace looks just as it did. There are no vertical profiles between the panels, so nothing breaks up the view.

How they work

Each panel slides along a top and bottom track. To open them, you move the panels one by one to the end, where they turn and stack together. You can leave them fully open, half open or closed.

Where we fit them

On penthouse and seafront terraces, where the wind means the terrace goes unused for a good part of the year. On villa porches that owners want to use as a dining room. And on restaurant terraces, which are closed in winter and opened in summer without removing anything.

Balconies, porches and picture windows

On a balcony, glass curtains let you step out for breakfast or to sit in the sun in winter too, without losing the view. On a porch they shelter you from the rain and cold while you open the front door, and the house holds its warmth better. And if there is no balcony but the view deserves it, they can go in the living room's picture window.

What to know before you buy

There is a thin gap between one panel and the next: glass curtains cut out wind and rain, but they are not a sealed closure like a window. If you want real thermal and acoustic insulation, look at an aluminium glass room. And if the terrace has no roof, it needs covering first, for example with a bioclimatic pergola.

Community approval and permits

Enclosing a terrace changes the façade, so you need the agreement of the community of owners and, depending on the town, a permit or prior notification to the town hall. We point you in the right direction during the home visit.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do glass curtains keep out the cold?

They cut out wind and rain, and that alone makes the terrace much warmer in winter. Because there are thin gaps between the panels, they do not insulate like a window. If insulation is what you are after, aluminium is the better choice.

How much does it cost to enclose a terrace with glass curtains?

It depends on the length, the height and whether the terrace has corners or curves. We give you the price in writing after measuring.

Do they get very dirty?

No more than any outdoor glass. With no vertical profiles, you can clean both sides by opening them.

Will they spoil my sea view?

No. There are no vertical profiles between the panels, and when you open them they stack to one side and the terrace is left as it was.

Do I need permission from the community of owners?

Yes, in an apartment building almost always, because they change the façade.

Can they go on a curved terrace?

Yes, the track follows the curve. We measure it during the home visit.

Are they suitable for a restaurant?

Yes, they also work on bar and restaurant terraces. See our terrace enclosures for bars and restaurants.
