Sand-coloured triangular shade sail over a house patio with lawn, table and chairs

Made-to-measure shade sails on the Costa Blanca

A shade sail is a fabric sail anchored at its corners to walls or masts and tensioned with stainless steel tensioners. On the Costa Blanca it shades patios, pools and car parks without a heavy structure, and several together cover large areas. We make our shade sails to measure, with a 10-year guarantee against fading.

What a made-to-measure sail is like

The fabric is high-density polyester that resists damp and mould and filters up to 97% of solar radiation. If you want it to keep the water out, we make it in PVC-coated polyester. It can be triangular, square or trapezoid, and it is anchored to the façade, to walls or to masts with stainless steel shackles and tensioners.

Shop-bought kit or made to measure

A kit sail comes in standard sizes with fittings designed for DIY assembly. A made-to-measure sail is designed around your anchor points, with the tension and pitch it needs so it does not pool water or flap in the wind. For seasonal shade in a corner, a kit will do. To cover a pool, a car park or a patio you use every day, made to measure is worth it.

Where they go

Patios and gardens

Light shade, with air circulating underneath.

Pools

Over the sun lounger area or over the water.

Car parks

They protect the car from the sun with no building work.

Driveways and sports courts

Several sails in a row cover long walkways, like the ones we make for beaches and seafront spaces.

Summer businesses and bar terraces

In tourist areas, where much of the trade happens outside the premises, a shade sail gives shade and keeps the terrace tidy. In bars and restaurants it replaces parasols, which take up space and get in the way between tables: a well-designed sail covers the whole terrace with few anchor points.

Wind and rain

A properly tensioned sail copes with normal wind. In storms or heavy rain, and in the months when you are not using it, we recommend taking it down: it comes off in a few minutes and lasts many more years. If you spend the winter away from your Spanish home, take it down before you leave.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does a shade sail keep the rain off?

With PVC-coated polyester it does not let water through, as long as it has enough pitch for the water to run off. In heavy rain we recommend taking it down.

Which sail shape is best?

The one that fits your anchor points. A triangle is the easiest to tension; a square covers more area with the same number of anchor points.

Do I need masts?

Only if there are no walls to anchor to. Walls and masts can be combined.

What guarantee does the fabric have?

Ten years against fading.

Is it easy to put up and take down?

Yes, once the anchor points are installed it comes off and goes back up in a few minutes. If you need a hand, our team can help.

How much sun does it filter?

Up to 97% of solar radiation.

Is it suitable for a community or company car park?

Yes, with several sails in a row or combined.
