Made-to-measure cassette awning
A cassette awning stores the fabric and the arms inside an aluminium box when it is closed. The sun, the dust and the salt air cannot get at them, so they last longer. We make every cassette awning to measure in Elche, in the colour of your façade, and fit it with a motor or a manual crank.
What is a cassette awning?
It is a folding-arm awning with a box that closes it completely. When open it works like any retractable awning; when closed you see a smooth unit against the wall. That is why it suits penthouse terraces and façades on show, where an open-backed awning looks untidy.
Full cassette, semi-cassette or open
A full cassette encloses both the fabric and the arms. A semi-cassette only covers the rolled fabric from above and leaves the arms exposed: it costs less and makes sense under a balcony or eaves that already shelter it. An awning with no cassette is the classic retractable awning. On an open terrace, and even more so near the sea, the full cassette is worth it.
Where it fits best
On penthouse terraces, because the closed box stands up better to the winter. On the seafront, because the salt air cannot reach the fabric or the arms while the awning is closed. And on new or renovated façades where the community of owners asks for a clean finish. For small windows there are simpler options, such as the drop-arm window awning.
Motor and wind sensor
A cassette awning works well with a motor: it opens and closes with a remote control or from your phone, and the wind sensor retracts it by itself if the wind gets up. More on our page on electric awnings.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a cassette awning and a retractable awning?
Both open with folding arms. A cassette awning also stores the fabric and arms inside a box when closed, while a standard retractable awning leaves them exposed. The cassette lasts longer outdoors; the open retractable costs less.
How much does a cassette awning cost?
It depends on the width, the projection, the fabric and whether it has a motor and sensors. We give you a fixed written price after measuring, with no obligation.
Can I fit a cassette awning on a balcony?
Yes, if the wall can take the brackets and there is enough height for the box to clear the railing and the balcony above. We check it on the home visit.
What is a semi-cassette awning?
An awning with a cover that protects the rolled fabric from above but leaves the arms outside. It protects less than a full cassette and costs less.
Is a cassette awning OK in the rain?
Closed, yes: the box protects the fabric. Open, acrylic fabric lets light rain run off if it has enough pitch, but it is not designed to be used in heavy rain or in wind.
Does it need any maintenance, especially near the sea?
A service once a year, ideally before summer: cleaning, greasing the pivot points and checking screws and fixings. Near the sea it matters more. We can do it for you with our awning repair and maintenance service.
Do I need permission to install it?
If it goes on the façade of a building, you need your community of owners' agreement, and some communities set the colour and model. On a detached house, generally not.
